Unfortunately, mother nature reared her ugly head once more this week. On Wednesday and into Thursday morning the golf course received a total of 1.6” of rain and flooded a majority of the course. Incredibly, this means our rain total for 2024 has already reached over 20 inches which is already double the rain totals for a normal winter. In preparation for the rain received this week, our crew installed a new rain basin at the back patio to eliminate an area of patio that routinely puddles with any amount of rain. Prior to the rain as well, Buckingham and any zoysia grass tees on the golf course were sprayed with a fungicide for a disease called large patch. Soil temperatures have finally reached the 50s but we still need soil temps to be in the 60’s for the bermudagrass to fully break dormancy. However, the new zoysia fairways are already green but are not actively growing quite yet. With the cooler temperatures this week we are running about five degrees behind the five year average. The black and white traffic stakes were returned to their seasonal home on the golf course, meaning the winter cart rules are officially over! As a reminder, the black and white stakes are placed to mark the entrance and exit areas for carts on each fairway in order to control traffic to areas that are most easily recoverable.
